Bryant Brewer, convicted of killing Chicago officer, could face life sentence

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Bryant Brewer, found guilty in the 2010 shooting death of Chicago Police Officer Thor Soderberg, could spend the rest of his life in prison.

A judge found Brewer guilty of first-degree murder on Tuesday.

In 2010, Brewer approached Soderberg in a parking lot in the city's Englewood neighborhood, grabbed his gun and fired three times.

The defense argued Brewer was mentally ill. But last week he testified that he was proud of being a cop killer.

Soderberg's widow, Jennifer Loudon, said she's pleased with the verdict, but it doesn't replace the pain.

"My whole goal through this was to make sure no one else would have to go through what my family and I have had to go through," Loudon said.

Brewer will be sentenced in September.
