The lions got their custom-made helmets at 9 a.m.

The lions were installed at the Michigan Avenue entrance of the museum in 1894 through a gift from Mrs. Henry Field. They were created by artist Edward L. Kerneys, who intended the north lion to be "on the prowl," while the south lion is "standing in an attitude of defiance," the museum says. Each weighs approximately three tons.
