Bastian Schweinsteiger scored late in his testimonial match as his former club Bayern Munich beat the Chicago Fire, his current employers, 4-0 on Tuesday.
Schweinsteiger, who joined Bayern's youth team as a 13-year-old and played 14 seasons for the senior team, spent the first half playing for the MLS club before swapping sides at the interval.
He capped the scoring in the 83rd minute by sprinting into the box and volleying a cross from David Alaba into the net.
"I am one of you forever. My past only belongs to FC Bayern and to no one else," Schweinsteiger said.
"Incredible. I enjoyed every second. It was an honour to play for FC Bayern Munich one more time. I grew up here, it's my club. I belong my here."
Bayern led in the seventh minute through Serge Gnabry's deflected shot, and Sandro Wagner added a second by heading home a James Rodriguez cross.
Schweinsteiger changed teams after half-time, as every Bayern player came out wearing his No. 31 shirt.
Thomas Muller set up Arjen Robben to score Bayern's third mere minutes after they both entered the game on the hour mark, and from there Bayern tried to get Schweinsteiger more involved in the attack, and he had a pair of shots saved.
But Schweinsteiger finally got his goal with seven minutes to play, leading Bayern players to hoist the club legend up in the air.
"He's not only given a lot to German football, but first of all to Bayern Munich. And you could see today that you also get something back. He's always loyal. You can have a lot of fun with him," Thomas Muller said.
