Derrick Rose is expected back on the court in two weeks after undergoing surgery on Wednesday.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Chicago Bulls star Derrick Rose is recovering from surgery Wednesday at Rush University Medical Center after getting hurt on the first day of practice. The surgery went 'as expected today,' according to the Bulls twitter feed, and he's "estimated to resume basketball activities in two weeks."

"He's still in a good place. You know, it's getting through this. You know, the great thing it's not structural damage that's going to keep him out. As soon as he's healed and ready to go he'll be able to get in there 100-percent," Bulls Coach Fred Hoiberg said.

Rose was elbowed in the face on the first day of Bulls' training camp. He cracked the orbital bone around his left eye, doctors said.

While the Bulls didn't say much about the incident or the surgery, the most common treatment is extensive, Dr. David Yoo, associate professor of ophthalmology at Loyola University Medical Center, said.

"Make an incision in the eyelid or underneath the eyelid to try to get access to the bone that is broken and either put a plate over the facture or spanning that fracture,"

Rose is no stranger to injuries. His first was in January 2012 and he's been out seven times because of problems with a torn ACL.

On Monday, before he was injured, he spoke about becoming a free agent in two years.

"You see all the money. Just telling the truth. And knowing my day will be coming up soon," he said.

With the injuries, comments and civil lawsuit alleging rape, his rating for marketability isn't too high, some experts say.

"Probably a 2," Larry Mann, executive vice president at rEvolution, a Chicago-based sports marketing agency. "He has a potential to get a 10, of course. Cause the beautiful thing about our country is we're most forgetful country around."

As for the court of public opinion?

"It seems like he's getting the wrong advice from someone. So let your play speak for you. We support you. We've show that. So just let your play speak for you," Thelton Parker, Bulls fan, said.

"I believe we have to patient with Derrick Rose. He's our franchise player. I know it's easy for the city to grow impatient, but what the alternative at this ping?" Van Johnson, Bulls fan, said.

"I think mentally he's defeated. And I think he just needs to clear everything and everybody out. And he just needs to focus on basketball," Pervis Thomas, Bulls fan, said.
