SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- - Ismael Massoud hit a go-ahead 3-pointer, Supreme Cook preserved the lead with a blocked shot, and Georgetown defeated Notre Dame 72-68 in overtime on Saturday.

Massoud hit a high-arching jumper from deep on the left wing to give the Hoyas a 70-68 lead with 1:16 remaining. Neither team scored on the next several possessions, and Cook blocked what otherwise looked like an open 3-point try by Kebba Njie with three seconds left.

Rowan Brumbaugh finished the scoring with two free throws for Georgetown in the final second.

Drew Fielder made four 3-pointers and led Georgetown (7-4) with 16 points. Brumbaugh added 15 points, Massoud 13, Dontrez Styles 10 and Jay Heath 10.

Markus Burton scored all six of Notre Dame's points in overtime and led the Fighting Irish (4-6) with 17 points, although he was 6-of-20 from the field. Julian Roper II and J.R. Konieczny added 13 points each and Braeden Shrewsberry had 10 points.

Styles hit a 3-pointer to give Georgetown the first lead of overtime, 65-62. Later, Notre Dame's Burton scored four consecutive points to put the Fighting Irish up 68-67 with 1:38 left, setting the stage for Massoud's and Cook's dramatics.

The Hoyas led 60-54 with 3 1/2 minutes left in regulation, but didn't score until Rowan Brumbaugh's jumper tied it at 62 with 1 second left. In between, Notre Dame's 8-0 run included four-points by Roper, a game-tying dunk by Tae Davis and a go-ahead layup by Burton with eight seconds remaining.

There were six lead changes in the first 14-plus minutes of the first half before a steal and fastbreak layup by Julian Roper II put Notre Dame ahead 25-24 and the Irish made four of their next six shots to go up 35-26 with 2:42 to go. But Jay Heath made two free throws and a layup and Ismael Massoud added a 3-pointer to get the Hoyas within 35-33 at the half.

It was the first meeting between the former Big East rivals since Jan. 21, 2013. Georgetown leads the series 17-13.

Notre Dame plays the second game of a six-game homestand against The Citadel on Tuesday. Georgetown plays at Butler in a Big East opener on Tuesday.
