Video shows officers rescue people from tractor-trailer semi fire

Police in Texas released a heart-pounding body camera video of the moment they say they discovered and rescued dozens of people from a burning truck.

The driver of the 18-wheeler was taken into custody facing human trafficking charges following a pursuit near the U.S.-Mexico border.

Body-worn camera video posted on social media by the Texas Department of Public Safety shows the events.

DPS said it started at the border checkpoint near Falfurrias, Texas, on June 4.

Border Patrol agents ordered a secondary inspection of a tractor-trailer rig after a K-9 indicated something suspicious.

However, the driver sped away. Officers deployed spikes and flattened the truck’s tires.

It kept going and as it was running on its rims, it caught fire.

State troopers then made a desperate attempt to open the trailer.

Police say 39 people, thought to be undocumented immigrants, were rescued from the burning trailer while the driver was arrested.
