CHICAGO -- A multiple vehicle car crash on the Dan Ryan Expressway at 43rd Street killed one person and kept three southbound express lanes closed through a good portion of Monday's rush hour traffic.
All lanes were opened at 5:10 p.m. Monday evening.
Illinois State Police say that while traveling on the southbound express lanes in the far left lane of traffic, a Pontiac broke down partially on the left shoulder and left lane of traffic. A silver Toyota tried to avoid striking the car, but caused a chain reaction crash with two more cars. Police say a 58-year-old man was killed in the accident.
All passengers were wearing seat belts.
