City completes Randolph Street projects

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A major facelift of a popular street through the Loop has wrapped up.

The Chicago Department of Transportation showed off the modern renovations of Randolph Street on Friday.

Crews have been working for months resurfacing the roadway, adding a protected bike lane from Michigan Ave. to Clinton Street and shortening the distance pedestrians have to cross the road.

"The opening of the new westbound Randolph bike lane provides Chicago's Loop with one of the country's best downtown protected bike lane networks," CDOT Commissioner Rebekah Scheinfeld said.

The Active Transportation Alliance said at least 70 percent of all traffic in the Loop is either by foot, on bike or by bus.
