Eric Sharpe, 47, killed in I-55 crash involving semi in Plainfield

PLAINFIELD, Ill. (WLS) -- A Joliet man was killed in a crash involving a car and a semi near Route 30 in southwest suburban Plainfield.

Investigators said the semi struck a disabled car driven by 47-year-old Eric Sharpe just north of Lockport/Plainfield Rd. just before 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Sharpe was pronounced dead on the scene, the Will County coroner said.

The semi driver was taken to an area hospital. The extent of the driver's injuries is not known.

Traffic was backed up for more than six miles during the Wednesday evening rush hour.

Illinois State Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
