CHICAGO (WLS) -- Construction is getting underway on a new pedestrian bridge over Lake Shore Drive at 35th Street.
Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Senator Dick Durbin were at the site today to mark the start of this project. The bridge will also cross nearby railroad tracks, making it easier for people to access the lakefront.
The new bridge is scheduled to open in the fall of 2015. It will be the first suspension bridge over Lake Shore Drive.
