Spirit Airlines checked bag fees to increase around Christmas

If you're traveling during the Christmas holiday season, one airline is charging more for checked bags.

Travelers have become accustomed to higher fares during busy travel periods, but Spirit Airlines will now add $2 to checked bag fees from December 18 to January 5. It's similar to a surcharge that was added over the summer.

Right now, checking a bag on Spirit costs between $21 and $100 depending on when you pay the fee.
