UIC student targeted in attempted robbery, police say

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A college student was targeted in an attempted robbery on Chicago's Near West Side, school officials said.

Police said a student from the University of Illinois at Chicago was walking in the 700-block of South Halsted on Monday night when a suspect driving a white sedan implied he had a weapon and demanded the student's belongings. Instead, the student ran and the suspect drove away.

UIC issued a campus-wide alert. Police recommend complying with anyone who tries to rob you.
