University of Chicago announces 'urban labs'

CHICAGO (WLS) -- The University of Chicago announced it is launching five new "urban labs" to focus on solving the problems faced by big cities.

Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel was on hand to announce the new labs. They will focus on crime, education, health, poverty, and energy and the environment.

Staff members and students will research strategies to fix problems that pop up in growing and already-large cities.
