CHICAGO (WLS) -- A 70-year-old woman was killed in a hit-and-run Thursday in the Loop, according to Chicago police.

The Cook County medical examiner's office identified the woman as Christine Campbell.

"We are shocked and sadden by the passing of our employee Christine Campbell. 'CC' as she was known to us, just celebrated 25 years with Northwestern Medicine," said Christopher N. King, a Northwestern Medicine spokesman in a statement late Thursday afternoon.

"She was dedicated to providing compassionate care to every patient, every day. CC was loved by her second 'family' and we will miss her smile, big heart and her loving stories about her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Our thoughts and support go out to the Campbell family during this difficult time," he said.

She was a patient care technician.

Campbell was driving a silver Honda sedan about 12:20 a.m., when she collided with a blue Buick sedan in the intersection of the 300-block of East Wacker Drive, police said. Her car appeared to jump the curb and hit a wall on Lower Wacker near Columbus Drive.

The driver of the sedan hit the Campbell's car and fled the scene. Police believe there may have been more than one person in the Buick. No one is in custody, according to police.

Airbags of both cars involved were deployed and the Buick's front end was destroyed.

Campbell was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead, police said.

Chicago police's Major Accidents unit is investigating the crash. Police are still searching for anyone involved in the hit-and-run.
