CHICAGO (WLS) -- Among the promotion and appointments of 121 firefighters Friday, Rosalind Jones became the first woman to achieve the rank of District Chief in the Chicago Fire Department.

Jones was promoted to District Chief of District 5, which covers a large section of the city's South Side.

The promotions and appointments were made at a ceremony at Navy Pier led by Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Fire Department Commissioner Jose Santiago.

"The brave men and women who serve in the Chicago Fire Department put duty above danger. And by doing so, they represent the very highest values of the city of Chicago," said Commissioner Santiago. "With the promotion of several outstanding firefighters, I look forward to continuing our work together to ensure every resident feels safe knowing that CFD is always ready to serve and protect them."
