Alan Krashesky named anchor of 5, 6 & 10 p.m. newscasts

CHICAGO (WLS) -- After 11 years anchoring the 4 p.m. ABC7 newscast with Linda Yu, Alan Krashesky is moving on to anchor the 5, 6 and 10 p.m. newscasts.

"Almost from the start, we built a rhythm and a partnership, covering breaking news from all over the world," Yu said.

He's the journalist who's been here for you and owning the big story for three decades.

In the early years, he anchored the morning newscast here in Chicago with Kathy Brock, Roz Varon, and Jerry Taft.

Krashesky's reporting on three popes has taken him all over the world. His most memorable reporting moment? Standing in St. Peter's Square as the white smoke went off in 2013.

"Hard to describe the excitement in this crowd, the bells are ringing, they've seen the smoke, they know that there's going to be a new pope and within minutes they're going to learn who that person is," said Krashesky at the time.

Krashesky was right there as Pope Francis was introduced to the world.

He has also spent time road tripping with Archbishop Blase Cupich and freezing outside Holy Name Cathedral in bone-chilling weather as Cupich was installed.

The following spring he was there as Chicago said goodbye to Cardinal Francis George.

Whether he's field anchoring tornado destruction in Washington, Ill., in 2013 or in Coal City in 2015, Alan always gets to the humanity of the story.

It's that heart and that humanity that at the end of the day makes Alan such an incredible journalist, father, grandfather and friend.
