Motion to dismiss in Wilmington murder case

WILMINGTON, Del. - February 29, 2008 – A former University of Pennsylvania student is accused of killing a rival. The case involves three students from the former Soviet Union.

Prosecutors have alleged that Irina Malinovskaya bludgeoned Irina Zlotnikov to death on Dec. 23, 2004 in the Brandywine Hundred apartment of Robert Bondar. In three previous trials, the state said that Malinovskaya was obsessed with her former lover, Bondar, and killed Zlotnikov, Bondar's new girlfriend, in a jealous rage.

In a meeting with a trial judge on Friday, Deputy Attorney General Paul Wallace said he is reviewing a defense motion to dismiss the charges.

Superior Court President Judge James T. Vaughn Jr. gave prosecutors until next month to respond to the defense motion to dismiss.
