Free update for security flaw in iPhones

July 31, 2009 Security experts at a conference in Las Vegas on Thursday demonstrated how hackers could seize control of an iPhone and use it for identity theft. Access is gained by sending computer code via the phone's short message service system.

Apple says no one has used the flaw to gain access to a customer's personal information. But a free software update is available to prevent it.

The upgrade is available only through apple's iTunes media management software.
