In April of last year, the toddler was being pushed in a stroller by his grandfather when a gust of wind blew him into the lake. Otto, who is a member of the fire department's dive team, jumped from a helicopter into the water and pulled the child and stroller to the surface.
"We heard the call come in over the radio so we got a good jump on it even before they called us. The crazy wind that pushed him into the lake became our tail wind so we got there in unbelievable time. We were there in 3 minutes and I think we found him in 3 minutes and had him out of the water," said Chicago Firefighter Brian Otto.
As the Hometown Hero, Otto will get to ride with the Thunderbirds next Monday while they are in town for the Air and Water Show.
