Reports: Hartmarx deal in jeopardy

August 7, 2009 (CHICAGO) Both Crain's Chicago Business and the Sun-Times report that Hartmarx is asking the buyers to pay several million dollars in additional costs.

According to the Sun-Times, if a deal is not worked out, Hartmarx could be liquidated leaving employees without jobs or paychecks.

Hartmarx filed for bankruptcy in January. A tentative deal was reached in June to sell the company.

A spokesperson for the Service Employees International Union tells ABC7 that negotiations are still underway.

We were unable to reach anyone from Hartmarx for comment.
