CITY'S HOTTEST CHEFS COOK TO FIGHT CHILDHOOD HUNGER IN CHICAGO AND ACROSS AMERICA

Share Our Strength's Taste of the Nation® Chicago Hosts 21st Annual Culinary Event on August 13, 2009 CHICAGO — With a passion to fight childhood hunger, Chicago's hottest chefs, restaurants, and mixologists will gather for Share Our Strength's Taste of the Nation®, the city's premier culinary benefit. Taste of the Nation Chicago will raise critical funds needed to support Share Our Strength's efforts to end childhood hunger in both Chicago and across the nation. This year's event will be on August 13, 2009 at the Ravenswood Billboard Factory, located at 4025 N. Ravenswood Avenue from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. with a VIP reception beginning at 6 p.m. and a Chef and VIP afterparty immediately following in the Billboard Factory's gorgeous third floor loft space.

More than 40 of the city's finest chefs and restaurants will participate in the gastronomic event. Along with Chef Chair Mindy Segal of Hot Chocolate, participating restaurants will include Michael Sheerin of Blackbird, Ryan Poli of Perennial, Bill Kim of Urban Belly, Paul Virant of Vie, Kristine Subido of Wave, Todd Stein of cibo matto and Michael Kornick of mk, among others. Guests will enjoy the city's finest foods paired with cocktails from Chicago's hottest mixologists, led by Master Mixologist Bridget Albert, as well as Belgian beers from Stella Artois, local craft beer purveyors, artisanal cheeses from the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board, and chocolate from Barry-Callebaut. "We're honored to be part of this nationwide movement to end childhood hunger in America," says 2009 Event Chair Mindy Segal. "Taste of the Nation brings together the finest of Chicago's culinary world, and helps the children in our community who suffer from hunger every day."

Area charities that will benefit from this year's event include the Greater Chicago Food Depository, the Illinois Hunger Coalition, and the Near North Health Service Corporation. Since 1988, Taste of the Nation has raised more than $70 million for organizations in the United States, Canada and abroad, including more than $2.4 million in Chicago alone.With more than 12 million children facing hunger in America, and one in four children living beneath the poverty line in Illinois, Share Our Strength's Taste of the Nation works to end childhood hunger in the United States and abroad by ensuring that children and their families have reliable access to nutritious food, and by addressing the deeper causes of these conditions. Funds raised through Taste of the Nation events provide grants to organizations in the United States, Canada and abroad that work successfully to end childhood hunger.
