Swedish rapper sentenced to prison for murder

LOS ANGELES Jassy also uses the name "Dave Monopoly." Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Michael Johnson sentenced Jassy after listening to an emotional statement by the victim's family.

Judge Johnson denied a defense motion for a new trial. He also denied a defense request to reduce Jassy's second-degree murder conviction to manslaughter.

Prosecutors say the victim, John Osnes, 55, banged on the hood of Jassy's rented sport utility vehicle after it nearly struck him in a Hollywood crosswalk. Osnes was a jazz pianist and pedestrian activist. They say Jassy got out, punched Osnes in the face, and then gave him a brutal kick in the head as he bent to pick up his glasses. Osnes fell to the ground. Prosecutors say Jassy ran over Osnes as he drove away.

A jury found Jassy guilty of second-degree murder, assault by means likely to produce great bodily injury, and battery with serious bodily injury.
