TPS may close 3 schools, saving the district $4.5 million

TOLEDO, OH The Toledo Public School district is still negotiating ways to cut the $30 million deficit. One option mentioned is closing multiple schools, including the Toledo Technology Academy.

TPS Superintendent John Foley estimates the district can save about $4.5 million if they close three major schools including:

Libbey High School will save $1.7 million
Toledo Technology Academy will save $1.3 million
Toledo Early College HS will save $1.4 million

One major reason for the cuts across the board is declining enrollment. TPS has about 26,000 students. There are 650 students at Libbey, 185 students at Toledo Tech, and 246 Toledo Early College. Superintendent Foley says it's not ideal but everything is on the table. You have a chance to sound off at a public meeting on the potential cuts next Wednesday March 17 at 5:30 p.m. at Start High School.
