The Chicago Teachers Union is suing the Chicago Public Schools to stop it from dismissing hundreds of teachers and support staff.

The lawsuit claims the Board of Education is dismissing some of the city's most qualified teachers in a manner that violates their constitutional right to due process.

The CPS issued a statement Tuesday denying that it has fired teachers "without legal grounds" as the union claims.

CPS says the teachers' lawsuit ignores the state's budget crisis.

Chicago's Public Schools are facing a $370 million deficit.
