David Axelrod's last day at White House

Monday is David Axelrod's last day at the White House. The president's senior adviser is expected to fly back to Chicago Tuesday.

Axelrod is returning home to work on the president's re-election campaign.

The president and first lady invited Axelrod and his wife to dinner at the White House residence last Friday.

Before beginning work on the campaign, Axelrod plans to take a few months to travel and reconnect with friends and family. Axelrod will then will resurrect his role as chief strategist for the campaign.
