Keith Herrera admitted taking part in three robberies. He and other officers with the defunct Special Operations Section are accused of stealing thousands of dollars from suspected drug dealers and other citizens during illegal home searches and traffic stops.
On Tuesday, Herrera pleaded guilty to civil rights and tax-related charges. He admitted he pocketed about $40,000 from the scheme. Herrera never reported the money on his federal tax returns
He'll be sentenced in July.
