The victim is listed in serious condition at Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn.
The blaze started in the basement of a 1 1/2-story building at 6231 S. Whipple Ave. in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood about 4:30 a.m., Fire Media Affairs Chief Kevin MacGregor said.
Crews put out the blaze in about 30 minutes, MacGregor said. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
