An Evanston police officer was on patrol at the Dempster Street boathouse when he noticed someone in the water. The officer called out to the swimmer to return to shore, but the person kept swimming away.
Water rescue teams attempted to find the swimmer with no luck. Just after 7 a.m., the swimmer returned to shore without any problems. Frances DuPont, 49, was arrested and charged with violating three city ordinances.
Her court date was set for later this month.
