Many hospitalized children are given a variety of medications, even though it's not always clear the drugs are safe and effective. That's the conclusion of a study in the journal Archives of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine."
Authors studied more than 580,000 young patients. Some received as many as 13 drugs on the first day of hospitalization. After a weeklong stay, others were given as many as 35 drugs.
Researchers say their findings underscore the need for more research into the use of medication for young patients.
