Douglas McConnell is an investment banker and competitive swimmer. Last month he swam the English Channel.
For a portion of the 14-hour swim, McConnell had to deal with 5 foot waves, though he had been told to expect something calmer.
McConnell described the toughest part of the swim.
"Not knowing when those were going to kind of calm down a little bit," said McConnell. "It never -- despite Lance's assurances -- it never went to glass. But just having three 3 waves after several hours of 5 foot waves was a welcome relief."
McConnell raised $150,000 for Lou Gehrig's disease research. His father died of ALS in 2006.
