The accident happened Thursday morning on Lee Street near Interstate 90. Police are not sure how the Ford Explorer ended up wedged beneath the truck's trailer. The driver of the Explorer, John Huffaker, was severely injured. Lee Street was closed while emergency crews extracted him from the vehicle.
Huffaker was hospitalized as of Thursday evening in serious condition.
The crash closed Lee Street in both directions from Mannheim to Touhy. The outbound I-90 ramp at Lee Street remained open.
Truck driver Jimmie Hodges was charged with failing to yield when making a left turn. Hodges is from Riverdale. He was not injured.
Only northbound traffic is getting through on Touhy while police investigate.
