Pfleger and St. Sabina Church sponsored a rally outside the State of Illinois building on Randolph and Clark.
Several Chicago Public School students performed original works of dance and poetry.
"In so many of our neighborhoods, the landmarks are teddy bears and yellow police tape and balloons were somebody got shot last week or last night," Pfleger said.
Some celebrities with Chicago ties also made special appearances and performed their own works of poetry.
Pfleger said such events are important because they bring communities together and make others aware of the social issues.
