Researchers found there was double the risks of learning disabilities in children who had more than one exposure to general anesthesia with surgery before age 2. The federal government funded and requested this study after an FDA panel met to review current research examining the effect of early exposure to anesthesia on the developing brain.
This latest study in Pediatrics adds to already existing evidence but does not prove the link.
