Chicago librarians protest proposed budget cuts

Some Chicago public librarians protested Monday over Mayor Rahm Emanuel's proposed budget cuts and layoffs in the city's library system.

Librarians and library supporters staged their protest outside the mayor's office while also conducting story time for some children.

The mayor's 2012 budget proposed a reduction of eight hours a week at the city's branch libraries.

The Harold Washington main library would not be affected.

The mayor says reduced hours of operation will allow the city to keep all branch libraries open.
