City officials and Walmart executives participated in Wednesday morning's ribbon cutting. The new, smaller Walmart Express store is located at Broadway and Patterson. The store has a pharmacy and offers groceries and general merchandise.
It is one of several dozen smaller neighborhood stores Walmart plans to open in Chicago over the next few years.
At the grand opening, company officials made donations to several local organizations including Howard Brown Health Center and the Center on Halsted.
