The Chicago Chargers boarded buses for New Orleans at 1 a.m. Friday. Many of the children are from the inner city and it's the first time most of them have traveled outside Chicago.
"They've just got some leadership and some leaders and some people that are unimagined," said Congressman Danny Davis, who turned out to wish them well. "They are unsung heroes and sheroes, lots of people never heard of them, but they will hear of them from here on."
On Thursday, the Chicago Sport and Social Club presented an $8,000 check to the Chargers. The team has an opportunity to play in a tournament but didn't have enough money to pay for everyone to go.
After hearing the team's story, the Chicago Sport and Social Club and others donated the money to make the trip.
