Mandatory rear-view systems rule stalled

The system is designed to keep drivers from backing over children.

New regulations were supposed to be phased in for all cars and light trucks by the 2014 model year.

Now, Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood says his agency needs additional data and research time before implementing such rules.

Automakers have complained that requiring rear-view camera systems on all new vehicles would be too expensive to manufacture.
