Preckwinkle was joined by representatives for numerous business alliances Tuesday in announcing plans to provide relief measures to small, minority and woman-owned businesses.
Among them, a plan for the county to buy insurance for contractors working on specific county projects so the companies can bypass those costs, lower their bids, and expand their businesses to add jobs in Cook County.
"What we've determined is paying for it ourselves given the volume of business we're doing is cheaper than imposing the cost on our vendors," said Preckwinkle.
The plan primarily applies to the county's capital improvement projects.
