Naperville school lockdown over; break-in suspect at large

December 11, 2012 (NAPERVILLE, Ill.)

Police activity was reported around 7 a.m. when school was not yet open. Parents were alerted via text message to keep their children home until the area was deemed safe around 10 a.m.

Children who were already being bused to school were taken to Kennedy Middle School until they received the all-clear from police.

The lockdown came after a home invasion in the Steeple Run subdivision in unincorporated Naperville on Woodcrest. A man told police someone broke into his home. The homeowner, who is a military veteran, fired at the intruder, who escaped. There was no word on whether the intruder was hit.
