The 78-year-old was found guilty in March of using his political campaign accounts for personal use and not paying taxes on that money.
Prosecutors contend the money was used for gambling.
Beavers, who was also a Chicago alderman and police officer, argues he should get probation due to his "life-long commitment to public service."
