Local leaders and families joined the "Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense" group in honoring the victims with a bell ringing.
The memorial was held at Cornell Square Park, the site of a mass shooting just a couple months ago.
Illinois' "Organizing for Action" group held a vigil late Saturday afternoon in Pioneer Court on Michigan Avenue.
Local faith leaders and community members held candles to remember the 20 children and six adults who were killed.
And in Palatine, the Sikh religious society held an inter-faith candlelight vigil.
The Sikh community also experienced gun violence back in 2012 when there was a shooting at a temple in Oak Creek, Wisconsin.
