Ganaa Otgoo, 32, of the 1400 block of South Canal Street, is charged with aggravated battery, according to a statement from the Skokie Police Department.
Police said video footage and witness accounts of the attack led to Otgoo's arrest. Otgoo allegedly began yelling at riders, including the senior citizen, on the Skokie Swift CTA line on Friday, March 28, 2014. When the victim told Otgoo to leave him alone, police said the suspect punched and kicked the elderly man until he fell down. The victim sustained severe bruising.
Chicago police and CTA personnel assisted in the arrest. Otgoo is due in court on May 2. He is being held on $15,000 bond.
