WASHINGTON, D.C. (WLS) -- Are you going to see your doctor often enough? A new study shows women see their doctors more often than men.

The annual checkup? While many of us don't necessarily go in every year - or in fact, even need to - it can be an important opportunity to touch base with your family physician and take stock of your health.

Now, a new report from the CDC suggests that some of us are making more use of this one-on-one with our doctors than others.

Researchers looked at the 34 most populous states in the country to see who was paying their doctors the most visits. They found that women are much more likely than their male counterparts to make that trip to the doctor. Also, the elderly also more likely than younger adults to seek help.

The new research could be a reminder that meeting with a doctor while healthy can be a great time to get advice for maintaining or improving your health. That relationship with your family doctor may be the best prescription of all.
