CHICAGO (WLS) -- A stretch of West Argyle Street on Chicago's North Side will become the city's first "shared street."
Work in underway on Argyle between Broadway and Sheridan in Chicago's Uptown neighborhood, to transform that section of the street into a plaza shared by pedestrians and drivers.
City officials said it will encourage a lively atmosphere with al fresco dining and street fairs. Construction is scheduled to finish in June 2016.
Only one eastbound lane on Argyle will be open to traffic during construction. Drivers should plan alternate routes.
