AURORA, Ill. (WLS) -- A man, 20, who died after the car he was riding in went into a lake in west suburban Aurora has been identified by police and the driver, 18, was arrested for driving under the influence, Kane County Forest Preserve officials said.

Rafael Eulogio, 20, and Jesus Favela, 18, both of Aurora, went to Lake Patterson in Oakhurst Forest Preserve Thursday morning to "look at the lake," officials said. They thought the car was in park when it rolled into the water.

Favela was able to escape before the vehicle submerged. He flagged down a passing motorist, who called 911 just after 8 a.m.

Emergency crews responded to the 1800-block of Fifth Avenue and sent divers into the water to search for Eulogio and the vehicle. They found him just before 8:20 a.m., officials said.

Eulogio was taken to Rush-Copley Medical Center, where he later died.

Officials said Favela was also taken to Rush-Copley, where he was treated and arrested for allegedly driving under the influence. He is awaiting bond at Kane County Jail.
