Suburban teen charged with killing newborn kitten

CRYSTAL LAKE, Ill. (WLS) -- A suburban teen is accused of killing a newborn kitten during an argument with family members.

Police said Axel Salemi, 18, killed the kitten Friday afternoon at a Crystal Lake home that also serves as a rescue shelter for kittens.

Salemi had been arguing with other family members and killed a kitten "while in an agitated state of mind," police said. He was arrested at his workplace later that day.

Salemi is charged with animal cruelty and damage to property.
