Police: 2 shot, including 3-year-old, in Back of the Yards
Chicago police said two people were shot, including a 3-year-old girl, in the city's Back of the Yards neighborhood Wednesday afternoon.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Chicago police said two people were shot, including a 3-year-old girl, in the city's Back of the Yards neighborhood Wednesday afternoon.

Police said the shooting happened in the 1900-block of West 48th Street at about 2:48 p.m.

Police said an unknown man walked up to a 24-year-old man and began firing shots in his direction. The shooter then fled on foot and may have gotten into a black sedan waiting nearby, police said.

The man was shot in the foot and taken to University of Chicago Hospital in stable condition, police said. A 3-year-old girl was shot in both legs and taken to Comer Children's Hospital in stable condition.

Police said the victims are father and daughter.

Chicago police said the adult victim is a documented gang member and was the target of the shooting.

"It's sad because children aren't allowed to be children. They're not allowed to walk with their parents, they're not allowed to enjoy their life. You know, they're in the middle of what's going on out here in this world. These innocent babies have nothing to do with it," said Veronica Shirley, neighbor.

Police are still searching for the shooter and reviewing security camera video from the neighborhood. If you have any information about the shooting, call Chicago police.
