Here's what you need to know before you go out on Good Friday or Easter Sunday.
This Friday marks the beginning of a holiday weekend for those who celebrate Easter.
The video is from a previous report.
In 2024, Good Friday falls on March 29, while Easter Sunday takes place on March 31. If you're planning to head out on either of those days, keep in mind that some stores and businesses may be closed, depending on your location.
Here's what you need to know for 2024.
Although Good Friday is not a federal holiday, there are multiple states, including North Carolina, Texas and New Jersey that observe it as a state holiday. That means local and state government offices will be closed on Good Friday in those states, although federally-operated government agencies, like the USPS, will remain open.
Most retail stores, including Costco, Target, Walmart and Kroger, plan to be open during regular business hours on Good Friday. Since it's not a federal holiday, most major banks will remain open, as well.
USPS, UPS and Fedex will be open and operate on normal delivery schedules.
Some public school districts and religious schools will be closed on Good Friday. Others may be closed for spring break which happens to coincide with Good Friday this year. Make sure to check your local school's calendar.
Additionally, U.S. stock markets will be closed on Good Friday.
Make sure to check your local store's hours, as some may close early or have reduced hours on Easter.
FedEx office locations will be open with modified hours, but FedEx will not operate delivery services with the exception of Custom Critical and Trade Network deliveries.
These stores are closing Easter Sunday to give employees the opportunity to rest and be with their families.
Businesses and government agencies that are not typically open on Sundays will also not be open on Easter Sunday.
