CHICAGO (WLS) -- The city settled a lawsuit over the death of 17-year-old Cedrick Chatman, who was shot and killed by Chicago police while running away from officers in 2013.

At the time, Chatman was suspected of carjacking and police said he pointed a gun at them. The gun turned out to be a box for a smartphone.

In January, the Chicago Police Department released documents, reports and surveillance video of the shooting in response to two years of demands from Chatman's family and their attorneys. The Independent Police Review Authority and the Cook County State's Attorney's office have determined that the shooting was justified.

The details of the settlement won't be released until it is approved by the City Council. Both officers in the video are still on active duty.
