Israel Idonije's new comic book

CHICAGO -- Israel Idonije, former Chicago Bear and friend of Windy City LIVE, stops by to spread some holiday cheer and tell WCL what he's been up to since he officially retired.

Izzy started a comic book called "The Protectors." He wanted to create a story where the world's best athletes are actually super heroes and their athletic greatness is just a by-product of a greater gift within them.

The type series is called "Motion Books" because it's not truly animated in the cartoon sense. People still have to read what the characters are saying. It debuts on Dec. 16 with 15 new episodes. One new episode will premiere each week through March 23.

Izzy is also celebrating the tenth year of his "Shop with a Cop" program.

On Dec. 17, 100 kids who are facing challenges in their lives will get a special holiday gift. They will each get a day of fun, including a pizza party, bowling and a $100 gift certificate to shop for their holiday gifts.

All of this is done with 30-40 Chicago police officers. It's a way to build bridges. It's also a way to know that even with everything that is happening in our world today, there are still good cops out there protecting us every day.
